A beautiful Black Mica freeform with a naturally dark, metallic lustre and layered crystalline texture. Mica is known for forming in thin, sheet-like layers that reflect light across the surface, giving each piece a subtle shimmer and distinctive mineral character.
This substantial freeform makes an impressive display piece for an altar, crystal collection, meditation space or home décor, while its deep colouring gives it a strong, grounding presence.
Geological Information
Black Mica is a member of the mica mineral group, which includes several closely related sheet silicate minerals. Dark specimens are commonly associated with minerals such as Biotite or Phlogopite, depending on their exact composition.
Micas form in thin, flexible sheets due to their layered crystal structure and are commonly found in igneous and metamorphic rocks, including granite, pegmatite, schist and gneiss. Their characteristic reflective surfaces come from perfect basal cleavage, which allows the mineral to separate naturally along flat planes.
The exact hardness varies by mica species, but most micas measure approximately 2.5–3 on the Mohs scale, making them considerably softer and more delicate than Quartz. Care should therefore be taken to avoid knocks, scratching or prolonged exposure to water.
Spiritual & Magical Information
Within modern crystal and magical practice, Black Mica is commonly associated with grounding, protection, energetic boundaries and self-reflection.
Its dark, reflective appearance has led to its use in practices focused on shielding, releasing unwanted influences and strengthening personal energetic boundaries. It can also be incorporated into grounding rituals, protective altars and workings intended to encourage emotional or spiritual stability.
Because mica naturally forms in layers, it is also sometimes used symbolically for uncovering hidden truths, peeling back layers of thought or emotion, and gaining clearer insight into situations. This can make it a useful stone for meditation, shadow work and reflective magical practices.
